UON joins elite circle in world innovation
The University of Newcastle (UON) has received international recognition for its entrepreneurship and innovation leadership by being inducted into the prestigious Leadership Circle of the Global Consortium of Entrepreneurship Centres (GCEC).
As part of the Leadership Circle, UON joins an elite group of 31 universities world-wide who provide guidance to the GCEC and represent the best in entrepreneurship education.
This induction builds on the momentum of UON’s Hunter Innovation Project (HIP) partnership announcement this week and the development of an Integrated Innovation Network across the Hunter, which will create enabling environments for the next generation of entrepreneurs.
Senior Deputy Vice Chancellor and Vice President - Global Engagement and Partnerships, Associate Professor Kevin Hall, said this was a great achievement for the University and is another step forward for UON in the innovation and entrepreneur space.
“We are determined to develop the best innovation ecosystems in our regions and joining the GCEC Leaders Circle will further support the development of new industries, networks and opportunities to drive the region’s economic development.”
Professor Hall will be attending the 2016 GCEC Conference at the University of Rochester in New York this Thursday and Friday to meet with the Leadership Circle and present UON’s entrepreneurship and innovative initiatives.
The GCEC network is comprised of more than 200 university-based entrepreneurship centres across the world that connect academic and business communities to advance excellence in the innovation field.
