In conjunction with the Centre for Brain and Mental Health Research, UON hosted the conference which comprised of more than 90 oral talks in addition to a poster session, with more than 200 delegates in attendance.

Keynote addresses were delivered by prominent international researchers including Mathematical Neuroscience expert, Dr Rosalyn Moran (University of Bristol), Cognition and Neural Science Professor, Dr David Strayer (University of Utah) and Cognitive Neuroscience investigators, Dr Sara Festini and Michelle Farrell (University of Texas). Key topics of discussion included the distracting nature of using mobile phones whilst driving, the methods in which neural depletion and enrichment factors affect cognition, and how learning over time enhances brain connectivity to facilitate superior predictions of the environment.

A key component of the conference was the launch of the ACNS Equity Policy, which was developed by a working group chaired by ACNS President, Associate Professor Anina Rich (Macquarie University), and Professor Jason Mattingley (University of Queensland), and presented by UON’s Centre of Excellence for Equity in Higher Education Director, Professor Penny Jane Burke.

The ACNS is an academic society which focuses on the scientific study of the biological or brain foundations of mental processes and behaviour.
