UON dominates 2017 Eastern Unigames

UON has dominated the 2017 Eastern University Games pennant tally, winning the Overall University Champion trophy as well as the Per Capita title.

The overall results followed four days of sporting competition hosted by the University of Newcastle.

UON Campus Programs Manager and Elite Athlete Support Officer Andrew Yapp said taking out both Overall and Per Capita championships at the same event was rare.

“UON’s result is testament to the commitment and dedication of our athletes in representing the University of Newcastle.”

“The spirit and camaraderie displayed by all students was outstanding.

“The Games provide an opportunity for students to develop new and future personal and professional connections. To provide this opportunity as host university is something we are very proud of and it was exciting to witness such success both on and off the field."

Macquarie University received the Spirit of the East trophy for demonstrating outstanding sportsmanship throughout the week.

The 2017 Eastern Unigames accolade follows the success of the UON student athlete team which won the 2017 Indigenous Unigames at Deakin University in Geelong.
