Scientist swap strengthens research links with China
A University of Newcastle (UON) researcher is helping to strengthen Australia's research links with China following his appointment as a national science ambassador.
Dr Ali Bazaei has joined twelve of Australia's brightest emerging scientists as part of the Australia-China Young Scientists Exchange Program (YSEP), which sends Australian scientists to China for two weeks while Australia hosts sixteen Chinese Researchers for the same period.
Exchange activities include visits to key policy and funding agencies where Dr Bazaei and his group are establishing professional relationships as science ambassadors for Australia.
The joint government initiative by the Australian Department of Industry and Science and the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology hopes to provide a catalyst for future Australia-China Research collaboration.
Dr Bazaei said UON had a successful history of partnering with Chinese institutions on research.
"China has well established research institutes that host talented staff and students. Collaboration with Chinese research organisations fosters the Systems and Control discipline in my institution to carry out applied research programs."
"Four years ago, the College of Control Science and Engineering at Zhejiang University invited me to visit their school and present a lecture. I am keen to get to know them better and establish a more serious research collaboration with them."
Dr Bazaei arrived in China over the weekend where he will visit a number of engineering institutes as part of his tour, including the Center for Systems and Control at Peking University in Beijing.
