UON ranked in the world's top 100 for Nursing
The University of Newcastle (UON), Australia’s nursing discipline has debuted in the top 100 in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2016, thanks to experienced clinical educators and internationally renowned researchers like Professor Sally Chan (pictured), Dean of Nursing and Head of School of Nursing and Midwifery in the Faculty of Health and Medicine.
Professor Chan is a global nurse educator and researcher. Her career influences the tripartite mission of research, education and practice. She focuses on translating evidence to improve practice outcomes, implementing teaching innovations, and mentoring new generations of nurses.
Sally has been a nurse academic for more than 20 years. Supported by more than 65 funded studies, and featured in more than 300 international publications, Sally has developed and sustained international inter-institutional partnerships. The results of her sustained research agenda has been influential on nursing education, mental healthcare policy and service delivery across the globe.
Sally has been honoured for her significant and sustained contribution to nursing. In 2013, she was awarded the ‘International Nurse Researcher Hall of Fame’ by the Sigma Theta Tau International Honors Society of Nursing, and Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing.
Through accessing inbound and outbound professional mobility and connection with global leaders across the nursing discipline, the School’s staff and students have an opportunity to consider health related issues in an international context and to expand their educational and research horizons ensuring nuanced and innovative solutions to global health challenges.
