Prof Nick Talley named Editor-In-Chief of MJA
Top medical journal, the Medical Journal of Australia (MJA) has announced University of Newcastle Laureate Professor Nick Talley as its new editor-in-chief.
A prominent Australian gastroenterologist and clinical educator, Laureate Professor Talley will commence the role in December this year.
Chair of the AMPCo Board, Richard Allely, said the Board is honoured to have such a well-respected and multi-skilled medical leader take the helm of the MJA at a challenging and exciting time for medical publishing.
"Laureate Professor Talley is a clinician, educator, writer, author, researcher, and editor, with a strong track record in medical practice, medical education, and medical publishing, in Australia and overseas," Mr Allely said.
"He brings significant experience, knowledge, and expertise to the MJA, and is perfectly suited to guiding Australia's leading medical journal at a time of rapid change, innovation, and technological revolution in media and publishing.
"Professor Talley's broad range of skills and experience, and the high regard in which he is held in the health and medical community nationally and internationally, makes him the ideal Editor in Chief to take the MJA to new levels of success," Mr Allely said.
Laureate Professor Talley said the MJA played an important role in supporting the delivery of best practice healthcare and medical research in Australia.
"Becoming editor-in-chief of the MJA is an enormous privilege and responsibility.
"The MJA has a proud history of connecting clinicians working in our communities with ground-breaking research and I am honoured to be able to play a role in that," said Laureate Professor Talley.
Laureate Professor Talley is the Pro Vice-Chancellor (PVC) of Global Research at the University of Newcastle.
