Newcastle Open Day

The annual Open Day gives the community and future students the chance to discover the broad range of degrees offered both on campus and online, and to engage with University staff and students to hear first-hand about life at the University.

UON Vice-Chancellor, Professor Caroline McMillen, said she would encourage people right across the Hunter region, including school students, school leavers, and mature-aged learners, to visit the University on Saturday.

"We are extremely fortunate to have access to a world-class university here in the Hunter", Professor McMillen said.

"The University is internationally recognised for the quality of its research and teaching. This year, we are ranked the Top University under 50 years old in Australia according to the Times Higher Education World Rankings and we have lecturers who are in the top 1% in their field. This is a great time to join UON as we build the University's global reputation."

"Open Day is the perfect opportunity to discuss your study options with our lecturers and staff. UON has had remarkable success in supporting students from all backgrounds succeed at university.  There are many options ranging from enabling programs, through to our high calibre degree opportunities, and our research and postgraduate study options."

"Whether you are in your final years of high school or thinking about upgrading your professional qualifications, Open Day provides an excellent opportunity to hear directly from students and staff, attend presentations, tour the campus, explore interactive displays and engage with your university," the Vice-Chancellor said.

The University of Newcastle scored five stars in category of Generic Skills in the 2015 Good Universities Guide, which means that our students are graduating with excellent problem-solving, teamwork and communication skills which are critical to finding a job in any industry.

The UON Open Day will be held on Saturday 23 August between 10am and 4pm at the Callaghan campus. The program also features tours of the Civic Precinct in Newcastle CBD, including the Law School and Conservatorium, via a free shuttle bus from Callaghan.

People are encouraged to visit www.newcastle.edu.au/opendays to learn more about the day and to plan their activities interactively. People who register to attend will be placed in a draw to win an iPad mini.
