New Dean of Graduate Studies
Thursday, 11 July 2013
Associate Professor Andrew Abbo has been appointed as the new Dean of Graduate Studies.
Associate Professor Abbo moves to the role from the Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment where he has been an active member of the teaching and research community since joining the University in 2005. Andrew has a particularly strong record in research training administration having served as the Assistant Dean Research Training for the past four years and overseen significant growth in research higher degree numbers and productivity within that faculty. The role provided Andrew with invaluable experience in dealing with research training issues common across the University and fostered an extensive cross-faculty professional network.
Associate Professor Abbo is an internationally recognised researcher and member of two of the University's leading research groups, the PRC for Geotechnical and Materials Modelling and the ARC Centre of Excellence for Geotechnical Science and Engineering. He is actively engaged in Research Higher Degree supervision and will remain on the supervisory panel for seven Research Higher Degree students.
"Associate Professor Abbo's background in research and research training will be invaluable as he is tasked with driving improvements to all aspects of research training at the University and the development and implementation of plans to meet our strategic objectives," said Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) Professor Nicholas Talley.
Associate Professor Abbo will take up his new role immediately.
