Aspiring musicians learn from industry's best at University of Newcastle Music Forum
A visit from elite industry representatives has Newcastle music enthusiasts lining up to take part in a forum that will help them transition into the professional music scene.
Music Forum Manager Tracy Redhead said the Forum is a unique opportunity for Newcastle musicians to network and learn valuable skills associated with touring and live performance.
"Newcastle is home to many emerging artists. This forum will help these artists gain highly valuable insights. The event also presents a networking opportunity for artists to develop industry connections," said Ms Redhead.
A joint University of Newcastle Conservatorium and MusicNSW initiative 'The Newcastle Music Industry Forum' lineup includes James Boserio of Spit Syndicate, Andrew Kelly of Big Apachee and Damien Cunningham of Peats Ridge Festival, as well as specialists in artist management, sound and production and booking agents.
With extensive industry experience to draw from, these experts will share anecdotes and expertise from the road. Forum topics will include gig etiquette, booking agreement negotiation and issues faced by tour managers.
"These panellists are highly accomplished within their specific fields. This is an exciting opportunity for aspiring and professional musicians as well as the local music industry to access a diverse range of experts under the one roof," said Ms Redhead.
The Newcastle Music Industry Forum is the first event of a new series and will be held at the Newcastle Conservatorium on Thursday 15 August, 6.30pm. Entrance is free and open to the public. Bookings can be made by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
