Defence partnership
The University of Newcastle was today admitted as an Associate of the Department of Defence's Rapid Prototyping Development and Evaluation (RPDE) Program.
RPDE is a collaboration between
Defence, industry and academia, bringing together the best and brightest from
across the defence industry spectrum to deliver solutions for complex,
high-risk problems. Its aim is to "accelerate
and enhance Australian Defence Force war-fighting capability through innovation
and collaboration".
Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) Professor Nick Talley said the University of Newcastle established a number of outward facing research clusters this year to enable easy access to its world-leading researchers and facilities.
"It is incredibly pleasing that we have been able to engage with RPDE via the Defence cluster and to see our expertise put in to action. This is another example of the University of Newcastle's commitment to the translation of its cutting-edge research for the solution of real world problems."
The University of Newcastle passed a rigorous assessment process to be admitted to the RPDE where it was required to demonstrate it had skills and expertise in relevant research areas.
"Our internationally-recognised researchers have significant expertise in engineering, materials management, communications and electronics, data management, systems integration and a number of related disciplines with Defence applications," Professor Talley said.
"We are delighted to join an impressive list of Australia's foremost research and development organisations providing innovative solutions to the Department of Defence."
The agreement will be signed in Canberra on Friday 6 December.
