Create 2308 entertains and inspires
An interactive hug sculpture, paint wars, pop-up musical cabaret and a giant piñata made of post-it notes are just a few of the imaginative offerings at the University of Newcastle's Create 2308 festival. Premiering on the 16 September, the festival supports students to host an event that celebrates the artistic and creative talents that exist on campus.
"Create 2308 is a festival created by students to encourage their peers and university staff to engage with the creative aspect that exists within the 2308 postcode," said UoN Services Manager of Events and Activities, Tone Gibson.
Facilitated by UoN Services, the not-for-profit organisation responsible for enhancing the student experience at the University of Newcastle, the festival will run for five days at the University of Newcastle Callaghan campus, featuring thought provoking and unique exhibits to entertain and inspire.
"Hosting an event like this encourages the whole University to embrace creativity and innovation, adding to the already long list of diverse events and activities UoN Services provides for students all year round," said Mr Gibson.
The festival, also featuring the ARTiculate Art Prize 2013 for staff to showcase their creative talents, is an example of the thriving creative base at the University.
"Interestingly, the ARTiculate Art Prize shifts the student/teacher dynamic by allowing students to judge work submitted by teaching staff," said Mr Gibson.
