10 minute fast-fitness for students
Calling on UON students who’d like to get fit, but are pressed for time.
The Uni High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) program will be delivered at UON’s Callaghan campus in semester 1, 2017.
Our researchers are looking for students aged 18 – 25 to assess the impact of 3 x 10 minute weekly group HIIT sessions over 8 weeks.
Each session caters to all fitness levels and experience and uses a variety of exercises in each session.
You’ll experience boxing, body weight, aerobic and medicine ball exercises in sessions designed by leading exercise researchers.
Physical inactivity is a serious health concern for people of all ages, with strong evidence that physical inactivity and poor fitness are associated with developing a range of preventable physical and mental health conditions.
Regular physical activity has been shown to decrease these risks by up to 24 per cent across the transition into early adulthood.
As up to 80 per cent of 18 – 25 year olds fail to meet physical activity guidelines, their wellbeing is a public health priority.
There is a strong need for effective and innovative measures that address a range of issues experienced by young adults in tertiary studies.
Incorporating time-efficient, enjoyable and effective exercise sessions on campus has the potential to be an effective and feasible strategy.
This randomised, controlled trial aims to improve both physical and mental health and starts Semester 1, 2017.
