Students studying at the University of Newcastle’s Central Coast campus are being urged to apply for a scholarship, which can help ease the financial burden associated with study.
More than 200 scholarships are available across a whole range of degrees and disciplines, for both new and continuing students. Some are worth many thousands of dollars.
A number of scholarships are available specifically for students studying at the University’s Central Coast campus.
These include four $2,500 scholarships from Delta Electricity for students enrolled in any undergraduate program.
Bachelor of Nursing students can apply for the Edith and Joseph McBride Scholarship in Nursing worth $1,000 per year.
There is also a $5,000 Sanitarium scholarship for students enrolled in the Bachelor of Food Science and Human Nutrition honours program.
University of Newcastle Foundation Acting CEO Libby Rodgers-McPhee said a lot of scholarships were funded by community members and organisations that want to help students succeed in their chosen field.
“I encourage all students to visit the University of Newcastle website to see if they are eligible.
“We award scholarships to all kinds of students, from high achievers and keen sportspeople to talented musicians. There is also support for students who are struggling financially and you are not limited to how many you can apply for,” she said.
2012 scholarship winner and Oral Health student, Hayley Watson, said her $4,000 scholarship gives her peace of mind.
“The scholarship means I have fewer things to worry about. I am so lucky there are such thoughtful, genuinely good people out there who donate money to support students like me.”
Students can apply for scholarships via the University of Newcastle’s website at www.newcastle.edu.au/scholarships.
Applications for most scholarships are open until 31 March.
