Professor awarded the 2012 Ian Wark Medal
The University of Newcastle’s Professor Kevin Galvin has been honoured with one of Australian science’s most prestigious awards - the 2012 Ian Wark Medal and Lecture.
In collaboration with Ludowici Australia, Professor Galvin invented the Reflux Classifier - an industrial machine that separates fine particles on the basis of either density or size, improving the efficiency of the process with its unique tilted design.
The Ian Wark Medal and Lecture is a tribute to research that contributes to the prosperity of Australia and is awarded every two years by the Australian Academy of Science.
Professor Galvin is Director at the University’s Priority Research Centre for Advanced Particle Processing and Transport and his invention is being used by the mining and minerals processing industry in seven countries.
Professor Galvin is highly regarded in both the academic and industrial worlds for his outstanding contributions to his field, gravity separation.
The Ian Wark Medal and Lecture will be presented tonight at 7pm at the Great Hall, University House, Australian National University.
