Hats off to 55 Port Macquarie graduates
Ms Barbara will graduate with first class honours in Bachelor Teaching/Bachelor Arts (Primary) and receive the prestigious University Medal, which is awarded to students who have shown exceptional academic merit during their studies.
“I have always put 100 per cent into everything I do, and it is wonderful to have your hard work acknowledged in this way,” Ms Barbara said.
Ms Barbara began her university studies in the nursing degree program, but realised her real passion was for teaching. She jumped at the chance to pursue her dream when the Bachelor of Teaching degree was introduced at the university’s Port Macquarie campus.
At today’s ceremony, Ms Barbara will be joined by 28 Bachelor of Teaching graduates, 22 Bachelor of Nursing graduates and four other graduates to celebrate the culmination of their studies.
“We are a very close-knit group and we all know how lucky we have been to have studied on a smaller campus with help and support always at hand,” she said.
Since completing her studies last October, Ms Barbara secured her “dream job” teaching year one at Holy Family Primary School, Skennars Head in the Northern Rivers area.
University of Newcastle Vice-Chancellor, Professor Caroline McMillen, said today’s ceremony was a celebration by the university and the community of the outstanding academic achievements of Port Macquarie’s graduating students.
“Choice and access to quality education are two of the most valuable opportunities anyone can have,” Professor McMillen said.
“There is a genuine commitment in the Port Macquarie-Hastings region to a strong future for higher education and the University of Newcastle is proud to be a partner with the community in realising their educational aspirations.”
Ceremony details: Friday 24 February, 1pm, The Glasshouse Arts Centre, Corner of Clarence and Hay Streets, Port Macquarie. The occasional address will be by Chief Executive of the North Coast Area Health Service, Stewart Dowrick.
