Campus accommodation in good hands with new provider

The University today announced that UoN Services Limited will be responsible for the delivery of all student accommodation services on campus, including the new 750-bed development currently underway.

The University today announced that UoN Services Limited will be responsible for the delivery of all student accommodation services on campus, including the new 750-bed development currently underway.

Vice-Chancellor, Professor Caroline McMillen, said the University had appointed a provider with sound commercial know-how that could deliver the highest quality campus accommodation and, importantly, at the same time, a great student experience.

“UoN Services Ltd has operated successfully on campus for over four years creating a vibrant experience for Newcastle’s students,” Professor McMillen said.

“The UoN Services Ltd team is a trusted provider of many student support services and is perfectly placed to ensure a great experience for our students living on campus.”

Under the new arrangements, UoN Services Ltd will manage all aspects of operating accommodation services, including staffing, finance, maintenance and the student experience.

Representing the most significant change to the University’s student accommodation delivery in more than a decade, the transfer will be staged throughout 2012.

Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Services), Trevor Gerdsen, met with student accommodation staff yesterday to discuss the transfer of operations.

“The University is keen to make the transition as smooth as possible for staff as we move to the new arrangements,” Mr Gerdsen said.

“Opportunities to be part of the new accommodation services team will be advertised in January.”
Student accommodation on the Callaghan campus currently comprises 960 beds.

This will increase to 1,700 by 2014 with the completion of the new accommodation development, which will feature the highest standards of environmentally sensitive design.
