Celebrating Christmas the Australian way
International Homestay students will ring in the festive season with an Aussie-themed Christmas party this weekend.
Host families and their students will celebrate in typical Australian fashion before the students return to their home countries for the Christmas break.
The Homestay program has been a University of Newcastle success story for 12 years, and in that time, local families have opened their doors to hundreds of international students from 26 countries.
Students are not only provided with accommodation in Australian homes, but are welcomed into family life.
Some families have been involved with the program for more than 10 years, describing it as a rich and rewarding experience and often hosting students for the entire duration of their studies.
The Homestay program is currently seeking local families to host an International student in their home on a short term basis.
Picture opportunity: Homestay Christmas party, Saturday 3 December from 5pm-9pm at the New Lambton Community Centre, corner of Alma Road and Cromwell Street, New Lambton.
