The University of Newcastle overseas graduation ceremonies will honour more than 500 students as they celebrate the significant milestone of finishing their degrees.
International finance specialist Michael Gray will be awarded one of the University’s top honours at the Singapore graduation ceremony and alumni dinner on Saturday, 19 November.
Independent director of the University of Newcastle’s Singapore subsidiary, Mr Gray will be awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Business recognising his 35-year contribution to the international finance community.
Vice-Chancellor, Professor Caroline McMillen, said the University was fortunate to have someone of such high calibre as Mr Gray on board.
“Mr Gray has lent his expertise to numerous boards, welfare organisations, committees and institutes over a long and distinguished career, and he is widely recognised for his contributions to Singapore,” Professor McMillen said.
At the Singapore ceremony, 460 graduates will be awarded their doctorate, master and bachelor degrees, and graduation certificates. It will be the first of two overseas graduation ceremonies taking place.
The University’s Hong Kong graduation ceremony and alumni dinner will take place on Tuesday 22 November with more than 70 students honoured.
Nineteen doctorate, 52 master and two bachelor degrees across the faculties of Health, Science and Information Technology, and Business and Law will be awarded.
“I am delighted to have the opportunity to celebrate the achievement with all our overseas students,” Professor McMillen said.
“A successful seven-year partnership with Hong Kong Management Association (HKMA) has positioned the University to contribute significantly to the region, with our Doctorate of Business Administration and Master of Business programs among the few offered at this level in the region.”
The University will stage two graduation ceremonies in Singapore on Saturday 19 November at the Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel (Galleria Ballroom) at 11am and 3.30pm.
