The University has welcomed the NSW Government’s commitment of $25 million for the establishment of a city campus, revealed in the latest NSW Budget.

Vice-Chancellor, Professor Nicholas Saunders, said the announcement reflected the State Government’s strong commitment to the revitalisation of Newcastle’s CBD and its acknowledgement of the University’s important role in the city’s future.

"The $25 million NSW Government investment will supplement the $40 million the University has committed to the project and will provide a strong foundation for the Regional Universities’ Education Investment Fund application."

Stage 1 of the city campus project will consolidate the University’s business school and co-locate its law school with the new justice precinct.

Yesterday’s funding announcement is in addition to land in Honeysuckle pledged by the NSW Government in 2009.
