It is time for University of Newcastle students to apply for Industry based scholarships that will give them a head start in their careers.
Fine Arts graduate Emily Hithcock has fast-tracked her career in the competitive world of curatorship after she received an Industry Scholarship in Museology, sponsored by the University of Newcastle Gallery.
The University Gallery is sponsoring the scholarship again this year, and will provide a third year Fine Arts student with $6,000 in financial support and more than 260 hours of targeted work experience.
“I encourage all Fine Arts students to consider applying. Receiving the scholarship has given me vital experience in curatorship and has helped fast-track my career,” Ms Hitchcock said.
“Having the financial support paid in fortnightly payments, also meant that I did not have to work as many hours in my casual job, and allowed me the extra time I needed to focus on my studies.”
The Museology scholarship is one of a suite offered in the March intake by the University’s Industry Scholarship Scheme, for students studying chemistry, journalism, public relations, and film and video.
“These scholarships are part of the suite of flexible models available and range in value from $5,000 to $10,000 per year of study, they are open to students at different stages of their studies,” University of Newcastle Industry Scholarship Manager, Angela Samuels, said.
“The benefits of being an Industry Scholarship recipient are twofold. Students get financial support and they gain valuable industry experience.”
