Sixty Year 12 mathematics students from the Hunter and Central Coast will have their eyes opened to the world of university education when they visit the University of Newcastle’s Callaghan campus today.

The day, which is one part of a collaborative program between the University and the NSW Department of Education titled Boost+, aims to encourage kids from areas where tertiary educations aren’t always considered, to think about going to University.

The students from Irrawang, Kurri Kurri, Mount View, Northlakes and Wyong high schools will be learning strategies for the HSC and participating in activities that help build the students’ confidence in their ability to complete tertiary study.

Through the Boost+ program, schools and the University will work closely with students and their families throughout 2011 to encourage and support participants to aspire to higher education, access it and achieve their goals.
