A landmark agreement between the region’s top education and training institutions will streamline and improve education options for local students.
The Partnership Statement to be signed on Monday 17 January 2011 provides a framework for the University of Newcastle, North Coast TAFE and Hunter TAFE to collaborate on improving and increasing access to training on the Mid-North Coast, Hunter region and Central Coast.
The University of Newcastle’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Nicholas Saunders, said the statement provided a blueprint for the institutions to improve and expand education opportunities.
“The Partnership Statement provides a framework to eliminate duplication, streamline course options and share resources and facilities.”
The Partnership Statement will also explore incorporating TAFE qualifications as part of the degree programs offered by the University.
North Coast TAFE Institute Director, Ms Elizabeth McGregor said the agreement will further enhance the strong links already established between the institutions.
“It is an excellent opportunity to capitalise on the momentum for improved education facilities in the Port Macquarie-Hastings region.”
Hunter TAFE Institute Director, Phil Cox, believes this collaborative model will enable the three organisations to provide greater contributions to the future economic and social development of the regions.
“The provision of skilled, talented and knowledgeable employees for the business and industry of our regions is a key driver for all three of us.”
