University of Newcastle staff and students will be on hand to talk to prospective students about study options, preferences, preference changes and alternative entry, at Advisory Day on Wednesday 5 January 2011.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and Global Relations), Professor Kevin McConkey, said the Advisory Day was for all prospective students, but would be particularly useful for people who had received a higher or lower Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) than expected.

“Staff will be available to help students with changes to their preferences, various entry pathways to the University as well as other study options.”

The Newcastle, Central Coast and Port Macquarie campuses will each host an Advisory Day. The University’s Student Hub at Newcastle will be open for prospective students to change their preferences online via the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) website, with the assistance of University staff.

Advisory Day details – Wednesday 5 January 2011

 Newcastle campus (Callaghan), 2pm to 6pm, Great Hall, University Drive, Callaghan.
 Central Coast campus (Ourimbah), 2pm to 6pm, Tourism and Hospitality building,  Chittaway Road, Ourimbah.
 Port Macquarie campus, 2pm to 6pm, Administration building, A Block, corner of Oxley Highway and Widderson Street, Port Macquarie.

Prospective students have until Thursday 6 January 2011 to change their preferences for inclusion in UAC’s Main Round offers, which will be released at 9pm on Wednesday 19 January 2011.

A second Advisory Day will be held at all University campuses on Thursday 20 January after the release of main round offers.
