The University's Llewellyn Chest is now on display at the State Library of New South Wales in conjunction with The Governor: Lachlan Macquarie 1810 to 1821 exhibition.

Created by Senior Lecturer Dr Anne Llewellyn, from the Faculty of Science and Information Technology, the Chest is a specifically constructed cabinet containing a collection of Australian natural history treasures. It is a modern-day rendition of the traditional collector's chests of earlier centuries when the rich and privileged collected the material wonders of the New World.

The chest contains a number of historical items including sketchbook journals, site rubbings taken from the natural environment, botanical specimens, an insect collection and a display of seeds and pods.

The Llewellyn Chest is being exhibited in the Macquarie Street level 1 Gallery adjacent to the Macquarie Collector's Chest, which together showcase approximately 200 years of natural history collection from the Hunter. The Macquarie Chest is on display as part of The Governor: Lachlan Macquarie 1810 to 1821 exhibition in the Mitchell Wing Galleries.

The Governor: Lachlan Macquarie 1810 to 1821 and Llewellyn Chest exhibitions will be on display at the State Library until 10 October 2010.
