Chamber Choir's World Games win
The University of Newcastle Chamber Choir has taken the world by storm winning gold in two categories at the Sixth World Choir Games in Shaoxing China.
Around 420 choirs with over 10,000 performers from some 80 countries participated in the Games.
The Chamber Choir was named overall winner in the Mixed Choir and Contemporary Music sections. The Choir also received a Gold Diploma in the Folklore Singing category.
University of Newcastle Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and Global Relations), Professor Kevin McConkey, was thrilled to receive news of the Choir's win.
"The Choir has always been a local treasure and now it is a true international sensation," Professor McConkey said.
The 42-member Choir consists of University staff, students and community members. The trip to China was supported by the University and the community through the UoN Foundation.
