2,000 high school students descend on University
More than 2,000 students from high schools across the Hunter, Central Coast, mid-north Coast and New England regions will visit the University of Newcastle's Callaghan campus tomorrow for the annual Schools Visit Day.
Representatives from the campus will spend the day talking to Year 12 students about the wide range of degree programs on offer; and University staff will be on hand to provide students with information about admission, enrolment, HECS fees and scholarships.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Services), Dr Sue Gould, said Schools Visit Day was a unique opportunity for students to experience life on a university campus.
'This is a great chance for students coming close to the end of their high school education to get the information they need to make decisions about their future,' Dr Gould said.
'Students will hear about the range of different programs and subject areas they can study at the University, which will help them make choices about tertiary education.
'They will also have the opportunity to speak with current students about university life, and take a tour of the facilities to explore all aspects of life on campus.'
Schools Visit Day will be held from 9am to 3pm on Thursday 1 July 2010 at the University of Newcastle's Callaghan campus.
