Conservation biologist named finalist in national environment awards

Conservation biologist and frog enthusiast, Associate Professor Michael Mahony from the Faculty of Science and IT, has been named a finalist in the United Nations Association of Australia's World Environment Day Awards 2010.

Conservation biologist and frog enthusiast, Associate Professor Michael Mahony from the Faculty of Science and IT, has been named a finalist in the United Nations Association of Australia's World Environment Day Awards 2010.

Nominated by a member of the public, Associate Professor Mahony is one of three finalists in the category of Individual Award for Outstanding Service to the Environment.

In a career spanning 40 years, Associate Professor Mahony has always been involved in researching and teaching about the natural world. During this time he has made a significant contribution to the understanding, protection and management of the natural environment, particularly in the area of amphibian research and protection.

The winners will be announced at a dinner to be held at the Grand Hyatt in Melbourne on Friday 4 June, 2010, hosted by environmentalist Rob Gell, the President of Greening Australia.
