New Director to lead the Tom Farrell Institute for the Environment
Professor Tim Roberts has been appointed Director of the University of Newcastle's Tom Farrell Institute for the Environment.
The Tom Farrell Institute for the Environment builds long-term collaborative partnerships with industry, business, government and the community to promote environmental sustainability in the Hunter region.
The Institute offers a high level of environmental expertise in a range of fields and builds corporate and community understanding of environmental issues through research and public education.
Professor Roberts said it was an honour to be appointed Director of the Institute.
"Since its establishment in 2006 the Institute has formed a strong foundation based on its vision to develop regional solutions for a sustainable future.
"My aim is to position the Tom Farrell Institute as the gateway to environmental expertise at the University.
"I look forward to developing the strengths of the Institute and delivering lasting environmental, economic and social outcomes."
Professor Roberts is a Conjoint Professor of Biology at the University of Newcastle and an active researcher in the areas of immunology and the study of chronic disease.
Prior to joining the Tom Farrell Institute, Professor Roberts held a number of leading positions including Dean of the Singapore campus of the University of Newcastle and Dean of Research at the Singapore campus of James Cook University.
In the 1980s Professor Roberts developed the interactive science exhibition Supernova in Newcastle. This led to the establishment of the Newcastle Regional Museum.
