Students from the University of Newcastle Legal Centre will hit the beach again this summer to offer beachgoers free legal advice as part of the highly successful Law on the Beach program.
Each summer, under the supervision of the University of Newcastle Legal Centre's lawyers, students tackle legal issues for people, including divorces, victims' compensation, discrimination cases, tenancy disputes, wills and consumer matters.
"By offering free advice at the beach, we are particularly trying to target young people by taking the law to them," Director of the Legal Centre, Shaun McCarthy, said. "They can often face difficulties in their schooling, housing and financial support, and unfortunately may not get advice until it is too late."
Law on the Beach will run from 10am to 3pm on Wednesday 20 and 27 January and 3, 10 and 17 February 2010 in the Club Room at the southern end of the pavilion, Newcastle Beach. The Law on the Beach sessions operate as a drop-in clinic, so appointments are not necessary.
