Annie Vanderwyk - an advocate for creating educational and economic opportunities for Indigenous women in Australia - has been profiled in the latest edition of the international Global Woman magazine.

Featuring Michelle Obama on the cover, the American-based magazine contains a special feature on female leaders of the world and highlights Ms Vanderwyk's commitment to empowering Indigenous communities.

Ms Vanderwyk is Acting Portfolio Leader Community Engagement for the University of Newcastle's Gibalee Aboriginal Learning Centre on the Central Coast. She is also studying a PhD on the role of tourism in Indigenous sustainable economic self-determination.

She has presented her work at a number of high profile conferences and is currently the Chairperson of the Darkinjung (Central Coast) Mirring Aboriginal Women's Group.
