Students give top marks to University educators
Twenty eight University of Newcastle staff have been recognised for their excellence as educators, being awarded a Australian College of Educators (ACE) Teacher Recognition Award.
Nominated by their students as providing inspiration, support and encouraging a love of learning, each winner has made a lasting impression in their field of expertise.
More than 260 nominations were submitted for the awards with University of Newcastle staff securing 28 of the 65 successful applications from across the Hunter region.
University of Newcastle Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and Global Relations) Professor Kevin McConkey said the nature of the awards made them a great honour for the winners.
"The emphasis on students' feedback makes the ACE Teacher Recognition Awards different from many others that require self-nomination or recommendations from colleagues," Professor McConkey said.
"To be considered for the award, each teacher must be supported by at least three students who can demonstrate why the person nominated provides support 'above and beyond' that which is generally expected of them.
"That our teachers were so successful in achieving this recognition is testament to the passion they have for education and their commitment to providing students the best environment in which to learn."
The ACE Teacher Recognition Awards (Hunter) will be formally presented at a ceremony at 6pm Tuesday 3 November at Newcastle City Hall.
