Gunilla Haydon was not expecting her mind and spirit to be so inspired by an educational trip to Thailand as part of her nursing studies.

The second-year Bachelor of Nursing student at the University of Newcastle's Port Macquarie campus recently returned from an educational and cultural exchange to Lampang, in the country's north.

"The trip was the best thing I have ever done. It opened my eyes and gave me a whole new perspective on my future career," Ms Haydon said.

During the two-week trip, Ms Haydon learned about nursing education in Thailand, visited local medical facilities, and learned the art of Thai massage.

"The trip made me realise I am part of a global nursing community.

"I am still amazed that my university studies presented me with this opportunity and it was a truly inspirational two weeks."

The Bachelor of Nursing degree program is offered as a three-year full-time or part-time equivalent program at the Port Macquarie campus. It will be showcased at the campus Information Day on Thursday 3 September.

Teaching staff and nursing students will speak to prospective students about what to expect in the degree program, and answer questions about University life.

"I encourage anyone considering nursing to come along to Information Day to learn more about the degree and what an exciting career opportunity it offers," Ms Haydon said.

The purpose-built nursing labs at the University's Port Macquarie campus look and feel like a hospital ward, and will be open for tours on Friday 11 September at 9am and 9.30am.
