The sporting achievements of the students of the University of Newcastle will be recognised in a special presentation dinner this month.
The University of Newcastle Sports Awards will be held on Friday 21 August and will present the prestigious University Blues and Colours honours as well as sport scholarships, Sports Club of the Year and the Sports Person of the Year for 2008.
Blues are awarded to students of the University of Newcastle who have shown outstanding sporting ability when representing the University. Colours are awarded to people for their outstanding contribution to the administration and organisation of University sport.
Sports Person of the Year is awarded to the University student whose sporting achievements and sportsmanship during 2008 are deemed to have been the most outstanding.
NUsport has announced the finalists for the Sports Person of the Year. These people are:
- Kathryn Jankovic - Archery
- Matthew Dun - Rugby
- Margaret Watson - Rugby
- Ellie Sparke - Ultimate
The Sporting Club of the Year recognised the attainment of high standards in sports administration by a University sporting club during the 2008 academic year with the finalists named as:
- Boat Club
- Men's Hockey
- Women's Hockey
- Women's Soccer
- Water Polo
The event is organised by NUsport and will be held between 4pm and 7pm at Isabella's at the University of Newcastle's Callaghan Campus and will feature special guest speaker and Paralympic gold medalist sprinter, Heath Francis.
NUsport is also the organisation that manages the award winning facilities of The Forum, Sports & Aquatic Centre, University and The Forum Health & Wellness Centre, Harbourside.
