The University of Newcastle is hosting an information session for all students tomorrow (Friday 31 July) to help them understand their rights and obligations in the workplace.

The Fair Work Ombudsman and the Secretary of the Newcastle Trades Hall will be on hand to discuss and explain a range of areas including Workplace Agreements, leave entitlements, pay rates and employer/employee obligations.

When:

Friday 31 July 2009
12.30 to 1:30 pm

Where:

Room SRLT2, Callaghan Campus

Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and Global Relations), Professor Kevin McConkey, said almost without exception students at the University were working either part-time or full-time in addition to studying.

“Juggling work and study leaves little time for some students to research and understand their rights and obligations in the workplace. The University is hosting this information session so that students can put questions to the experts in a safe and secure environment, and ensure they have the facts to protect their rights and fulfil their obligations in the workplace.”
