Farewell to international students
Students from 15 countries will be farewelled at an afternoon tea at the University of Newcastle this afternoon.
The celebration provides an opportunity to say goodbye to, and recognise the achievements of, international students unable to return to Australia for the official graduation ceremonies.
The students have completed a wide range of programs, from undergraduate degrees to Masters and PhDs.
Students participating in the ceremony will come from Botswana, China, Germany, India, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Lesotho, Malaysia, Mozambique, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines and Saudi Arabia.
They will be welcomed into a network of close to 100,000 Alumni living in 95 countries across the globe.
The students will be farewelled by the University of Newcastle Chancellor, Professor Trevor Waring; Vice-Chancellor, Professor Nicholas Saunders; Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and Global Relations), Professor Kevin McConkey; and Director of the International Office, Ms Tracy McCabe.
Photo opportunity: The celebration will be held between 2.30pm and 3.30pm at the International House Dining Hall, Callaghan campus.
