University signs MOU with Tantrum Theatre
The University of Newcastle has strengthened its relationship with Tantrum Theatre, signing an agreement to formalise collaboration and develop the drama and performance skills of young people in the region.
The Memorandum of Understanding outlines the plans of both organisations to foster an awareness and greater understanding of contemporary arts practice and provide opportunities for people to be involved in innovative youth theatre.
Professor Victor Emeljanow from the University's School of Drama, Fine Art and Music (incorporating the Conservatorium) said both organisations had a long and distinguished history of achievement.
"There is much to be gained from this connection, including work placements for students with Tantrum Theatre, and access for Tantrum to the University's expertise and resources," Professor Emeljanow said.
Mr Terence Mahony, Chairperson of Tantrum Theatre, said the Hunter community would see the practical outcomes of the MOU in joint performance and production exercises.
"This partnership is committed to enriching the cultural life of the city and will focus on innovative works written and performed by young people," Mr Mahony said.
