Celebrating achievement in learning
More than 900 students will celebrate finishing their studies at the Central Coast campus this week with graduation ceremonies being held across Friday and Saturday.
Recognising the unique campus partnership between the University, TAFE NSW - Hunter Institute and the Central Coast Community College, students across the three institutions will gather together at Ourimbah to celebrate their achievements.
Pro Vice-Chancellor and Director of the Central Coast campuses, Professor Stephen Crump, said graduation was one of the key highlights of the year.
"Undertaking studies at a University, TAFE or community college level involves a commitment over a considerable amount of time," Professor Crump said.
"Each person graduating should have a well-deserved sense of achievement at having successfully completed their chosen program. I congratulate all graduates and wish them well for the future."
Of the 918 students graduating, 681 have completed University of Newcastle programs, 220 have completed TAFE qualifications and a further 17 are graduating from the Central Coast Community College.
Local business leader Alan Williams will be presented the University of Newcastle Exceptional Service Medal for his contributions to the Central Coast community and his support for students through scholarships, mentoring and commercialisation.
Six students will be conferred as Doctors of Philosophy (PhD), including three scientists from the School of Environmental and Life Sciences and three historians from the School of Humanities and Social Science.
Graduation ceremonies for the Faculties of Health; Science and Information Technology; and Business and Law, plus TAFE and Community College graduation ceremonies will be held on Friday 20 February.
Ceremonies for the Faculty of Education and Arts and Foundation Studies Programs will be held on Saturday 21 February.
