University on hand to help as UAIs released
Higher School Certificate (HSC) students receiving their University Admissions Index (UAI) tomorrow are reminded that the University of Newcastle is on hand to provide information and advice on university entry.
Across New South Wales, more than 50,000 HSC students will have online access to their UAI from 9am.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Services), Dr Sue Gould, said the release of UAIs could prompt all sorts of questions and the University was here to help.
"Tomorrow is a big day for students hoping to start a university degree in 2009, but it is important to understand that receiving a UAI is just the first step in process," Dr Gould said. "You may receive a higher or lower ranking than you expected or your career aspirations could have changed since you lodged your admission application, but there is still plenty of time to consider your options."
Prospective students have until Wednesday 7 January 2009 to change their preferences for inclusion in the Main Round of the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) offers, which will be released at 9pm on Wednesday 21 January 2009.
Late applications for 2009 will be accepted by UAC until Thursday 5 February.
"To help prospective students, the University of Newcastle will hold an Advisory Day at its Newcastle, Central Coast and Port Macquarie campuses on Tuesday 6 January 2009," Dr Gould said.
"Advisory Day is a chance for students to seek personalised advice about the choices available to them."
Enquires before Advisory Day can be directed to the Student Enquiry Centre at the University on 02 4921 5000. The Centre will be open until 5pm 23 December 2008, before closing for the Christmas break. It will reopen at 9am on Monday 5 January 2008.
Another Advisory Day will be held at all University campuses on Thursday 22 January 2009 after the release of Main Round offers.
