Chief Judge of the High Court, Geoffrey Ma Tao-Li, will deliver the occasional address at the graduation of more than 100 graduates of the University of Newcastle at a ceremony in Hong Kong on Friday.

University of Newcastle Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Services), Dr Sue Gould, said Mr Justice Ma's delivery of the occasional address was an honour for the University and its graduates.

"Mr Justice Ma has a distinguished career as an expert in civil and constitutional law both in Hong Kong and Great Britain, and held many significant positions prior to becoming the Chief Judge of the High Court," Dr Gould said.

"The University is delighted that Mr Justice Ma will address our graduates and provide some inspiration as they embark on their careers."

The ceremony will recognise the achievements of graduates in a range of programs including bachelor degrees and masters degrees in a number of disciplines such as commerce, marketing, nursing and aviation management.

A Doctor of Business Administration will be presented to 24 graduates.

Dr Gould said graduation was an exciting time for the graduands, their families and the University.

"Holding graduation ceremonies in our partner countries are a vital part of the University's connection with its international students," Dr Gould said.

"The University continues to go from strength to strength and, in total, more than 940 international students will graduate in 2008 from countries throughout Asia, including China, Japan, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam.

"I warmly congratulate our Hong Kong-based students on their achievements and trust their experiences with the University of Newcastle have been positive. I wish them all well for the future."

The University delivers its programs in Hong Kong in partnership with the highly-respected Hong Kong Management Association, the Hartford Institute and the Hong Kong Institute of Education.

The graduation ceremony will be held at 11am Friday 21 November in The Ballroom, Grand Hyatt Hotel, Wanchai.
