National art prize for local student
Creative Arts student Hugh Doyle has taken out the National Tertiary Art Prize in the Photography/Photomedia/Electronic Media category.
A finalist in the painting and drawing category last year, Hugh won this year with his photo 'Lonely Fridge'.
Hugh said the photo was part of a series of images portraying the contents of a student's garage. The winning photo depicts the often depressing state of the fridge's content.
Next year, Hugh will spend the final semester of his Bachelor of Arts degree program at the University of Leeds in the United Kingdom.
In its 16th year, the National Tertiary Art Prize is the primary student art competition in Australia, and is run by the Australasian Association of Campus Activities.
This is the second year running that a student from the University of Newcastle has taken out the Photography/Photomedia/Electronic Media category.
