Professor Glover to take up new post in Darwin
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) at the University of Newcastle, Professor Barney Glover, has been appointed the new Vice-Chancellor of Charles Darwin University in Darwin.
Vice-Chancellor, Professor Nicholas Saunders, said that under Professor Glover's stewardship, research performance at the University of Newcastle had moved into a new league.
"Professor Glover's vision for research at Newcastle was to maximise our competitive strengths and deliver more for the region.
"While he was Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research), the University received record funding from the National Health and Medical Research Council. He oversaw the establishment of 10 Priority Research Centres and set up a number of research institutes across all disciplines.
"He has been a key driver in our recent internationalisation strategy and has contributed to many of the partnerships we have today with esteemed Chinese education institutions.
"Professor Glover leaves the University in a solid position for future growth.
"His vision, innovation, commitment and good humour will be missed in Newcastle, but hold him in good stead for his new position at Charles Darwin University. The University of Newcastle wishes him the very best for the future."
Professor Glover started at the University of Newcastle in February 2006. Prior to his appointment to Newcastle, he was Pro-Vice-Chancellor Research and Development at Curtin University of Technology in Western Australia.
Professor Glover will continue in his position at Newcastle until early 2009.
