Real life experience for students in Project Week
The University of Newcastle's Conservatorium will this week give students an appreciation of the pressures faced by people working in the music industry.
National and international music experts will work with students in Project Week to mimic the pressures faced by musicians when preparing pieces in limited time frames. The pieces will be performed during the week at a series of concerts for the Newcastle community.
Professor Richard Vella said key to the challenge was exposing students to a range of different music styles.
"The result will be an exciting week of workshops and performances in hip hop, world music, improvisation, contemporary choral music, Bartók's piano music, percussion ensembles, jazz, cabaret and film music."
Project Week runs until Friday 29 August 2008.
