Meet your future at Info Day 2008
The University of Newcastle's Callaghan campus is opening its doors for the annual Info Day on Saturday 30 August, giving potential students the chance to find out more about local study options.
"Whether you are in your final year of high school, changing career or furthering your education, Info Day is a great opportunity to find out more about what the campus has to offer," Assistant Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Services) Julie Craig said.
"You can find out about full and part-time University degree programs, discuss options face-to-face with staff and students, and gather all the information you need to make an informed choice about your future.
"If it is further University study you are interested in, staff will also be on hand to talk about postgraduate options. It is also a great opportunity for TAFE students to find out how their studies can help them progress to university study."
On-time applications for admission into university degree programs for 2009 close on Tuesday 30 September, and can only be made online via the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) website. To assist with online entry, the University will open its Student Hubs on Info Day so people can apply on the day. Staff will be on-hand to help with the application process.
Current Year 12 students who intend to apply for University on the day are reminded to bring their student number and UAC PIN, plus a list of chosen courses. A valid credit card number will also secure their application on the day.
Info Day aims to help potential students and their families get a feel for campus life and will include course presentations, tours, interactive displays and live performances. The University's Chamber Choir, which recently won the Channel Seven competition Battle of the Choirs, will perform outside the Great Hall from 10.30 - 11.15am.
"Visitors can chat one-one-one with staff from the University. They can also attend presentations, take a tour of the campus facilities including the labs, lecture theatres, on-campus accommodation, the library and much more," Ms Craig said.
"We're also holding presentations for parents, sessions about admissions and fees, and discussions on what first-year students can expect when they start their studies."
