Chamber Choir hits the right note

The award-winning Chamber Choir sung its way into the semis with Queen's Bicycle Race and ABBA's Money, Money, Money in last night's quarter final of the television series competition.

The semi finals now await the University of Newcastle's Chamber Choir in Prime's Battle Of The Choirs.

The award-winning Chamber Choir sung its way into the semis with Queen's Bicycle Race and ABBA's Money, Money, Money in last night's quarter final of the television series competition.

The Choir again had to perform a battle tune to impress the judges. Its rendition of the Little River Band's Playing to Win sealed a spot in the semis.

Choir Conductor Mr Philip Matthias said the ensemble was excited to progress through to the next round of the challenging competition.

"This is a challenging competition which is changing the way our Choir performs. We are taking on styles of music not normally associated with a chamber choir."

The choirs are judged on their technical ability, cohesion, presentation and entertainment value. At the end of the knock-out competition, the winning choir will receive $100,000 and a recording deal with Universal Music.

Battle Of The Choirs airs on Prime at 7.30pm on Sundays.

The University of Newcastle's Chamber Choir will next appear on Sunday 27 July 2008.
