Media alert - Experiment Fest picture opportunities

Tuesday 24 June 2008

Determining the phosphoric acid content in cola drinks, working out the flight path of a fast moving object, and investigating the transfer of light by optical fibres are just some of the scientific feats around 1,400 local HSC students will be involved in over the next two weeks.

'Experiment Fest' is organised by the Faculty of Science and Information Technology at the University of Newcastle, and gives local HSC students hands-on experience of their physics and chemistry syllabus.

The Year 12 students taking part in Experiment Fest 2008 are from schools across the Hunter and Central Coast regions.

Experiment Fest 2008 is on at the University's Newcastle campus (at Callaghan) from Monday 23 June until Thursday 26 June, and at the Central Coast campus (at Ourimbah) from Monday 30 June until Wednesday 2 July.

Photo opportunities:
Newcastle campus: Wednesday 25 June 1pm, room SB309 (Science building, top floor).
Central Coast campus: Monday 30 June 10am room SL1 (science labs).

Associate Professor Colin Waters and Associate Professor Bruce King from the University of Newcastle Centre for Space Physics are available for interview.
