The University of Newcastle's Chamber Choir will battle against the nation's best in a new television series competition.

The award-winning Chamber Choir is one of 16 choral groups from across Australia competing in Prime's Battle Of The Choirs.

The challenging competition will see the choir move away from its classical roots and perform rock music. The choir will then be judged on its technical ability, cohesion, presentation and entertainment value.

At the end of the knock-out competition, the winning choir will receive $100,000 and a recording deal with Universal Music.

Battle Of The Choirs will air on Prime at 7.30pm on Sundays from this weekend.

The University will be cheering on the Chamber Choir, wishing it the best of luck.
