The University of Newcastle's Family Action Centre will today welcome the latest recruits to a voluntary home-visiting program which has worked with 1700 families and 3400 children.

Twenty-one volunteers will graduate from the Home-Start program which supports families (with at least one child under five years) in the Newcastle and Lake Macquarie areas. Volunteers work on a one-to-one basis and provide practical support and friendship to the family through regular home visits.

The Family Action Centre will also recognise the service of volunteers who have spent up to 10 years with the program.

Photo opportunity: The Family Action Centre will recognise the efforts of 34 volunteers at a special presentation today (Monday 2 June 2008) at 11am at Cardiff RSL.
