Students from the University of Newcastle will tomorrow give their time to help bring some fun to seriously ill young patients at the John Hunter Children's Hospital.

Joining Captain Starlight from the Starlight Foundation, the students will entertain a group of teenagers who are currently calling the Hospital their home through music and fun trivia.

The visit is an initiative of the Head of College and students of Evatt House and International House, all who live on campus in the University's Halls of Residence. It is part of an ongoing collegiate program supporting the work of the Starlight Foundation and other local community organisations.

Students at the Callaghan campus recently raised over $3,000 for the Starlight Foundation through a Charity Ball, a result far exceeding their target of $1,000.

Over $900 was also raised for cancer research by students from the Central Coast campus, including those living at Blue Gum House.

Head of the University's International House, Rowan Tan, said the students were committed to enhancing their academic experience through community work.

"The University encourages all students to consider how they can make difference to the community outside of the academic realm, and this is a perfect example of how they can achieve that goal.

"The genuine interest and community-mindedness shown by the students from the residential colleges in supporting the Starlight Foundation is a real credit to them."
