Students score publishing deals
Two postgraduate students from the University of Newcastle have written their way to publishing deals.
Mr Patrick Cullen's first book will feature award-winning short stories set in Newcastle following the 1989 earthquake. Written as part of his PhD, five of the 12 short stories have already been published in 'The Best Australian Stories' anthologies in 2005, 2006 and 2007. Mr Cullen is already in negotiations with Melbourne based publisher Scribe for a second book.
Dr Karen Hitchcock has been offered a two book deal by publisher Picador. The first book will feature her collection of short stories, two of which also appeared in 'The Best Australian Stories' anthologies in 2006 and 2007. Her second book will be a novel.
