UNISS celebrates 10 years
Hunter businesses are investing in their industries' futures through an innovative scholarship scheme providing valuable workplace experience, study and financial support.
Twenty six new students will be welcomed into the University of Newcastle Industry Scholarship Scheme (UNISS) this week.
Having grown from just two students with two sponsors in 1998, UNISS - now in its 10th year - has 55 active industry sponsors and 118 students. All scholarships are fully funded by industry and typically range from $50,000 to $80,000 over five years.
Currently, the majority of scholarships are for students within the Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment. The University hopes to grow and expand the UNISS initiative across all Faculties to benefit students studying a broader range of programs and the industries that support them.
Photo opportunity: New UNISS scholars will be welcomed at a function on Wednesday 19 March from 4.30pm to 6pm at Syracusa (formerly the University Club at the Callaghan campus).
